COLUMBIA, Mo–Missouri Women’s Basketball will continue its season this week as the Tigers have been selected to participate in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), as announced by the tournament organizers late Monday night.
Missouri, 17-13 overall, will travel to Creighton for the first round of the tournament on Thursday, March 20, with the time to be announced. The game will be held at Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center and D.J. Sokol Arena.
This marks the sixth WNIT appearance for Missouri, and the second consecutive postseason appearance for the Tigers after hosting Eastern Illinois in the first round of the WNIT last season. Prior to last season, Mizzou’s last postseason appearance came in the 2006-07 season when Mizzou advanced to the second round of the WNIT. This is the second postseason appearance at Mizzou for head Coach Robin Pingeton, and the 12th in her career. The Tigers are 3-5 all-time at the WNIT, and all three wins have come on the Tigers’ home court.
This year’s postseason WNIT field consists of 64 teams: 32 teams that earned an automatic berth, one to each established conference, and 32 teams chosen at-large. The tournament will be single-elimination with all games played at sites of host schools.
