SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri State women’s soccer team (3-7-1) has never lost a regular season match against UNI (1-9-0), the team the Bears face on Friday at 5:00 p.m. at Plaster Field to open Missouri Valley Conference play. MSU is 13-0-0 all-time in the regular season against the Panthers and among the many reasons to attend, the Bears will honor the senior class in pregame festivities.
“There is always an increase in intensity when you get to conference play,” said head coach Rob Brewer. “We will rely on our seniors to get us off to a good start. Valley games are the focus of our season.”
The Bears are coming off an undefeated week in which Shelby Stewart scored a thrilling 89th minute game-winning goal at home to beat UMKC. Stewart leads the Bears offense with three goals and six points on the year. Junior Molly Huber picked up two assists last week and tops the squad with four on the season.Michelle Mayne-Nicholls scored her first goal of the season on Sunday in a 1-1 draw at Nebraska-Omaha. In the match, the Bears racked up 16 corner kicks, the second-most in program history.
Mayne-Nicholls and Stewart will be two of the five seniors recognized before Friday’s match. Adrianne Kalogerou, Jessica Roberts and Lauren Wendt will also have their careers celebrated.
Last season, the Bears took down the Panthers in Iowa by a 3-1 score. Molly Brewer and Rachel Weimer had a goal and an assist each. Kelsey Goff added the third goal for MSU.In addition to the Senior Night recognition, fans will have the opportunity to win gift cards from the Missouri State Bookstore and Taco Bell. Pizza will be given away at the game and youth soccer matches at halftime will keep fans entertained all evening long. Fans holding a ticket to Saturday’s football game will be admitted to Friday’s soccer match free of charge.
