(West Plains) – Area fans of Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly Basketball can get their first look at this year’s team and meet the players at the annual Blue & White Madness scrimmage Saturday, Sept. 28, at the West Plains Civic Center.
This year’s event will begin at 6 p.m. with a new addition, a “carnival” session in the exhibit hall. Organizers said area businesses, organizations, churches and schools are being asked to set up an informational booth and include a carnival game as part of their offering.
“Booths can be used to promote your business or organization to members of the community, as well as to students at the university,” said Assistant Coach Bryan Bender, who is coordinating the event. “The entire event will be free, and the only requirement is for the booth to offer some type of game or contest that will be fun for children of all ages.”
Those who would like to participate in the carnival session should contact Bender at 417-255-5829 or firstname.lastname@example.org by Sept. 25 with details concerning their booth and how much space they will need.
At 7 p.m., activities will move to the arena, where this year’s Grizzly Basketball team will be introduced and players will participate in slam dunk and three-point shooting contests, as well as a scrimmage. In between contests, fans will have the opportunity to participate in more games and a dance contest, Bender said. Hot dogs and hamburgers also will be served free of charge, he added.
“Everyone is invited to come and help the Grizzly Basketball team kick off its season at this fun and exciting event,” Bender said.
“We expect this event to be the best one we’ve had,” Grizzly Basketball Head Coach Yancey Walker added. “We want everyone to come, have a great time and meet the Grizzlies!”
