Poplar Bluff traveled to West Plains on Tuesday for a non-conference match against the Lady Zizzers. Three minutes into the game, Poplar Bluff opened the scoring as Karisa Coleman was left open in front of goal. Coleman fired a shot past Bailey Pelc for a 1-0 lead. Three minutes later Katelyn Moore made it 2-0 as her shot snuck in the goal. Coleman scored her second goal in the 17th minute to make the score 3-0. After changing the lineup around a little bit, West Plains started moving the ball a little better and created a couple of chances. one of the chances resulted in a penalty kick as Poplar Bluff was whistled for a push in the box. Jada Hansmann took the kick and scored for West Plains, cutting the lead to 3-1. Poplar Bluff got the goal back in the 39th minute and lead 4-1 at halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Zizzers played more aggressively on both sides of the ball. The defense did a better job of marking up. Offensively the ball movement improved, especially as the off the ball movement improved. Poplar Bluff scored in the 24th minute of the half and again in the 35th minute of the half for a final score of 6-1. Overall the effort and execution was much improved over Monday’s game.
In JV action, Poplar Bluff came out on top 6-0. Poplar Bluff had the better of play through most of the first half, but West Plains was able to keep the game scoreless. In the second half, West Plains started out well, but as the half went on, some holes opened up in the defense and Poplar Bluff took advantage. The first goal came in the 15th minute of the half on a penalty kick. Three minutes later the Mules scored again to make it 2-0. They would add goals in he 19th, 22nd, 23rd, and 35th minutes of the half. This was the first full game for the JV after playing just a half against Marshfield. The effort was good, but there are some things that we need to work on in order to play better as a team.
Next up will be games against Mountain View-Liberty at home on Monday. Varsity will play at 5:00pm. We will play a half of JV after the Varsity game.
