(West Plains) The MSU-West Plains Grizzlies would like to be Region 16 regular season basketball champions.  That distinction will do little more than guarantee a bypass of the Region 16 play-in game next week. But it would be a nice reward for two months of tough games leading up to the post season tournament at Hillsboro next week.

Standing in the way is the Moberly Greyhounds, who will visit the West Plains Civic Center at 7 pm Saturday for what will be the final regular season game. If the Grizzlies win and Mineral Area beats State Fair, the Grizzlies would win the league outright. But at worst, a Grizzly win insures a tie for the league regular season title at worst.

The Grizzlies defeated Moberly at Fitzsimmons-John Arena on Ground Hog Day, February second by a score of 62-58.  The Grizzlies missed 7 straight free throws in the last 90 seconds to give the Greyhounds a chance at rallying.

In last season’s matchup at the Civic Center, the Grizzlies blew a lead and lost to Moberly in double overtime, 89-88. Grizzlies’ coach Yancey Walker says he hasn’t forgotten what happened last year.
