Beulah May Adey Flower was born November 4, 1926 to John Henry and Stella May Adey at their home in the Arthur’s Creek Community. She was the youngest of nine children. She ascended to meet Jesus on April 17th, 2014 to make her home in God’s Kingdom.
She was united in marriage to Joye Flower in Reno, NV June 15, 1947 and they shared 66 anniversaries together. To this union two daughters were born, Sheila Ann Taylor and Debra (Debbie) Kay Collins. She loved them dearly and was always a kind, loving and nurturing mother.
She walked to school at Arthur’s Creek. She told us how they would have ciphering matches and spelling bees. She attended Houston High School for a brief time.
Beulah worked in Kansas City at Russell Stover and Kresge’s, in the Defense Plant in St. Louis and International Shoe company prior to becoming a wonderful stay at home mom. She was a Brownie and 4-H leader. Beulah was good at sewing and made her daughter’s prom and wedding dresses. She enjoyed bowling with the ladies league of Houston for many years.
As long as her health permitted she enjoyed traveling and visited all of the lower 48 states and Hawaii. She traveled to Mexico, Canada, Spain, Africa, and enjoyed many Caribbean cruises to the many islands. She and Joye spent many winters in the Everglades and Satellite Beach, Florida. They camped many years at Theodosia, Mo, on Lake Bull Shoals before purchasing a cabin, them and all their children and grandchildren could enjoy.
She was baptized with her sister’s Violet and Edith and brother-in-law Bill Sells at Dogs Bluff by Ervin Morton. Beulah was a member of the First Christian Church of Houston for more than 50 years. While her daughters were growing up she made sure they attended Sunday School and church services. She attended regularly until her health prevented otherwise.
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved daughter Debbie, her sisters; Fern Adey, Violet Mayberry, Edith Sells, Ruby Gerbasi and two infant sisters, her brother Vernon Adey, her brothers-in-law Cleve Mayberry, Bill Sells, Frank Gerbasi and sister-in-law, Jewell Adey Farmer, nephew, Emmett Adey, niece Katherine Sells Dooley, great niece Patty Stewart Ward and great nephew Tim Adey.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years of the home, daughter Sheila Taylor and husband Kerry of Springfield, MO, granddaughter, Jaimie Bowlin and husband Rocky, great-granddaughter, Alissa Bowlin and great-grandson, Ryan Bowlin all of Houston, MO, son-in-law Mike Collins, grandson, Grant Collins and wife Shonna, great-granddaughter Dakota Collins and baby boy Collins due in August 2014, Blake Collins and friend Krissy McDaniels all of Poplar Bluff, MO, her brother Willard Adey and wife Laura of Houston, MO and brother-in-law Stanley Flower and wife Edna of Newark, CA, niece Maxine Wambeke, nephews Lynn Adey, Wille Adey, Freddie Adey, and Michael Adey.
She always welcomed everyone in to her home. Our friends, any and all, expected and unexpected, all were welcome. Many times those friends were brought along to the lake, Branson, Silver Dollar City, or the Shrine Circus. That thoughtfulness extended to her grand and great grandchildren as well. She never met a stranger and always enjoyed conversation. She was knowledgeable of family and community history and was often asked to help reconcile memories of ‘who was who’.
Beulah was a gentle, considerate, caring, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who leaves behind a lifetime of good memories for her immediate family, many special nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones who will always remember her beautiful blue eyes and rosy cheeks. She will be greatly missed by all, until they are united in Heaven above.
