Veva M. Gourley, age 96, daughter of Harvey P. and Eulah May (Stewart) Burch was born January 9, 1917 in Almartha, Missouri. She went to be with the Lord on May 8, 2013 in Houston House.

Veva married George Gourley April 5, 1934. To this union 5 children were born: one daughter Georgia Mae, 4 sons, Gilbert, Eldon, and David, one infant son Charles Perry.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, infant son Charles Perry, one brother, Gilbert Burch, 3 sisters; Blanche Micham, Grace Broughton and Rosetta Terry.

She is survived by one daughter Georgia Mae Hale and husband Loren Hale, Jr. of Petaluma, CA; three sons: Gilbert Dean Gourley and wife Kathy of Oakland, CA, Eldon Gourley and wife Joan of Rolla and David Gourley and wife Darlene of Houston, MO, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great great-grandchild, many other family members and friends.

Veva was saved at the age of 12 years old. She kept the course and was a faithful soldier for the Lord. Her heart was completely given to Him and her life reflected her dedication to her Savior. She was active in any church congregation she attended and she was a charter member of Souls Harbor Church. She even started a Sunday School Class at the Houston House when she went to live there. And up until the Sunday before her death she was visiting and praying with several of the residents there. She loved children and held many Children’s Crusades around the area.

Veva came from a musical family and took part in singing from an early age, singing with the Singing Burch Family. She sang with other gospel groups through the years. She was musically talented, teaching piano and guitar to many in Texas and Wright Counties.

She was focused on Her Lord and her family. Even when times were hard, she made birthdays and holidays into wonderful memories for family and friends.

Veva had a very vivacious personality. She often had a smile and encouraging words for anyone she met.

She was constantly seeking ways to encourage, help, and teach others. As stated above she knew who her Savior was and was ready to serve wherever needed.

The Savior has a place ready for her, one not made by hands, although perhaps the Lord did let George take part in the carpentry work. She is already enjoying that special place made for her. She has seen the Lord!

She will be missed, yet she compels those left behind to follow the Lord, be faithful until the end and be ready to meet the One who died for them. We will see her again.
