Genevieve (Hansford) Thomas, 98, of Omaha, Nebraska departed this life on January 28, 2013 at Skyline Retirement Center, Omaha. She was born December 31, 1914 in Iberia, Missouri, the daughter of Charles Edward and Martha Jane (Byler) Hansford.
Visitation will be Friday February 1, 2013, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Yarber Mortuary. Funeral Services will be Saturday February 2, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Yarber Mortuary, with interment at Turkey Oak Cemetery in Montier.
Genevieve was united in marriage to Elvis Thomas on December 24, 1930 in West Plains, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elvis; four brothers; six sisters; daughter, Jean Martin and husband, George; grandchildren, Carol Wallace and Kenny Martin; and great granddaughter, Laurie Strazdas.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Thomas and wife, Gloria, and Harold Thomas, all of Omaha, NE; two sisters, Ruby Rosenburg of St. Louis, MO and Ruth Holden of New Mexico; grandchildren, Teresa Saltzman, Cari Buskivicius and husband, Gary, Shade Thomas and wife, Stephanie; great grandchildren, Amanda, Brandon, Mykala, Zach, Chad, Eric, Rodney S. and Rodney M.; great great granddaughter, Aariyah; and many nieces and nephews.
Many changes had occurred in Genevieve’s lifetime from when she first married and lived in her little log house that she was so proud of. She had worked in honey producing and beekeeping, hog farming, and had even sold garden produce to Cloud Nine Ranch. Genevieve and Elvis had lived in Birch Tree for many years, but she spent her last years in Omaha with her sons and their families. She was able to enjoy much time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren there.
