Evelyn Godfrey, age 83, daughter of Cecil and Delphia (Poole) Garrett was born July 25th, 1929 at Butterfield, Missouri. She died September 26th, 2012 in Houston, Missouri. Evelyn attended High School in Woodland, Washington.

Evelyn was married to Lyle Godfrey in Woodland, Washington September 27th, 1947. They were married for 56 years. To this union 5 children were born, one son and four daughters.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband and her older brother, Clarence Garrett.

She is survived by her five children: Bruce Godfrey of Manhattan, KS, Shirley Edelman of Beloit, KS, Ruth Lee of Castro Valley, CA, Alice Boyd of Houston, MO and Sarah Young of Oakland, CA, 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Leonard Garrett of Forrest Grove, OR, and Earl Garrett of Woodland, WA; one sister Norma Brunson of Woodland, WA.

In July 1950 she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and for over 62 years helped many people including their 5 children to come to know her God, Jehovah.

Lyle and Evelyn Godfrey moved to the Ozarks in 1977. She loved homemaking, sewing, music and singing. She sang at many weddings through the years. They enjoyed many happy times together, raising their family, enjoying their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Evelyn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family will be hosting a memorial service Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 3:00PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness’es of Licking, MO. The body has been cremated. To send online condolences please visit

    Evelyn’s family, We love you and our prayers are with you all. We look forword to seeing your mom and dad in the resurrection. What a wonderful hope Jehovah has given us to share. Thank you for posting it in the Skamania Pioneer so we knew. May Jehovah be with you all, our hearts are. She is a great loss in this system but a blessing in the new. Love you much!
