Graveside services for Vainis Velmar Barks, 78, West Plains, will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Howell Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.

Mr. Barks died 3:58 a.m., Saturday, December 24, 2011 at the Ozarks Medical Center. He was born June 22, 1933 at Knobel, Arkansas to Clarence Raymond and Flora Alice Wheat Barks. On August 8, 1951, he was married at Salem, Arkansas to Leatrice Laverne King who preceded him in death on April 16, 2006. On May 14, 2010, he married Elizabeth Burns. Mr. Barks was a veteran having served with the United States Army. He had worked for Cloud Oak, managed Cozey Grove, was employed at Chrysler in Belvidere, Illinois and retired from the City of West Plains. Mr. Barks enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball, Bluegrass music, square dancing and dirt track racing. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Barks, of the family home; his step-children, Eric Schjenken, Steven Schjenken, Elizabeth Ramirez, Sandra Wilson, Christina Babb and Donald O’Bannon, Jr. twenty-one step-grandchildren; twenty step great-grandchildren; two brothers, Orval Barks, wife, Geneva and Melvin Barks, wife, Mary Ann, both of West Plains; one sister, Mildred Warren, husband, Verdon, Pomona, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews including a special nephew, James Barks, wife, Geri, Pomona, Missouri.

His parents, his first wife, two brothers, Truel and Kenneth and four sisters, Mary, Ona, Dee Dee and his infant sister, Lois, precede him in death.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Thursday at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Riverways Hospice and may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
