Anna Wood

Anna Katrinka Wood, 87, of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, formerly of Mountain Home, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015, in Batesville, Arkansas. She was born on June 11, 1927, in Butler, Kentucky to James and Amanda (Barger) Wood.

As a young woman, Anna finished her schooling while working in a factory making war products.  Wanting to more actively assist, she became a member of the Marine Reserves.  After the war, Anna began working for Bell Telephone Co. as an operator, before going to work on the lines alongside the men.  She brought, and successfully won, a lawsuit against “Ma Bell” to receive equal pay for equal work when she found out she received a smaller wage than her male counterparts.  Anna was an avid gardener and “garage-saler”.

She is survived by one sister, Naomi Nagel of Marco Island, Florida; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, of whom she would proudly say that her family extended from Alaska all the way to South Florida.

Arrangements will be private under the direction of Conner-Hankins Funeral Home and Cremation Center. An online guestbook and obituary are available at
