(Van Buren) – The 3rd Annual Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Dewayne Graham Memorial Scholarship 5K run and 1 mile run/walk is October 20 at Big Spring, located in Ozark National Scenic Riverways near Van Buren.
The route will take runners along the Current River, Big Spring and the Civilian Conservation Corp historic district. Awards will be given in four divisions, from age 12 to 50 and above, for both female and male entries. People who pre-register by October 11 will receive a commemorative t-shirt.
On-site registration will be held the morning of the race outside National Park Service boundaries at the South Van Buren General Baptist Church on Hwy 103 near Big Spring.
Run details and pre-registration forms are available at www.grahamrun.com. Race proceeds will go to the MSHP Sgt. Dewayne Graham Memorial Scholarship Fund, which honors the life and career of Sgt. Dewayne Graham, who was killed in an ambush at his home Sunday, March 20, 2005.
The scholarship is awarded annually to a local high school senior of high moral character and integrity who in pursuit of a career in criminal justice or law enforcement.
