(Thayer) – The West Plains Civic Center Theater is to host the Repertory Theatre of the Ozarks, (RTO) a non-profit regional community theater organization on Saturday July 27 at 7PM.
RTO is to present the summer musical review “Women of Country & a Couple of Guys”, which is a fun, fast paced show that runs through the country and honky tonk side of life and shows off the talent of performers from the Ozarks.
The show is to feature songs by Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Maybelle Carter, Carrie Underwood, Janis Joplin, Kitty Wells and more. The Guys’ side of the show offers Vince Gill, Diamond Rio, Hank Williams, John Prine, Eric Church, Gary Allen, Marty Robbins and others.
Starring in the musical as Patsy Cline is Mariann Hyslop of West Plains. The versatile Janie Crews of Alton will sing the songs of Tammy Wynette and Patsy Montana. Vera Martin of Thayer sings and dances her way through as Janis Joplin, Kitty Wells and Billy Jo Spears. Authentic Appalachian singer Phyllis Simpson of Mammoth Spring is Maybelle Carter and Dolly Parton. This show introduces Cheyenne Edington of Corning, a 9-year-old country singer who does Carrie Underwood.
The Guys’ star J.R. Briggs of Pocahontas as Vince Gill brings down the house with his “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” Garth Brooks and Diamond Rio. J.W. Brewer presents a stunning “Angel from Montgomery” and “Mr. Bojangles,” and the charismatic Dennis Hobbs gives us Marty Robbins’ “Cool Water” and Hank Williams favorite “Your Cheating Heart.” Both Brewer and Hobbs are from Thayer.
“Women of Country & a Couple of Guys” is being directed by Caroll Lucas of South Myrtle, and Allison Carter of Thayer is to be the Master of Ceremonies.
