(Springfield) (AP) – A public memorial for hotel developer and philanthropist John Q. Hammons will be held next month in one of the many Springfield public venues he helped to build.
Hammons died Sunday in Springfield at the age of 94.
His company, John Q. Hammons Hotels and Resorts, announced Thursday the service will take place June 11 at JQH Arena on the Missouri State University campus.
Hammons donated $30 million toward the $67 million cost of the basketball and event venue, which opened in 2008.
The June 11 service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Doors will open one hour earlier.
