(West Plains) – For the third year in a row, the OMC Information Technology (IT) Department has made personal donations of $500 to the Food for Kids Backpack Program to help combat hunger among youth.
The Backpack Program was formed by the West Plains Sunrise and Noon Rotary Clubs and supplies qualifying kindergarten through fourth grade students with a backpack containing six meals and two nutritious snacks and drinks for the weekend. According to organizers, many low-income students do not get the nutrition they need when they are without school lunches on the weekend. This lack of nutrition can affect their behavior and academic performance. It costs $8 to supply one child with a backpack of food for one weekend. By donating $500, the IT Department will supply two children with nutritious weekend meals for a whole school year.
