(West Plains) – Having arthritis, diabetes, heart or other chronic diseases does not mean one can’t manage them and live a fulfilling life. Because of this, Mercy Hospital’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) will soon be offered at the West Plains Senior Center, 416 East Main Street in West Plains.
CDSMP is a group format course that is offered by trained leaders in six-week increments, meeting once per week for two hours. Topics covered include: techniques to deal with problems associated with chronic conditions; appropriate exercise; appropriate use of medications; communicating effectively with family, friends and health professionals; nutrition and setting goals.
The program will run in West Plains from 9-11:30 AM on Mondays, April 15-May 20. Due to a grant from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and Southwest Missouri Regional Arthritis Center, the program is provided free of charge, and each participant also receives a helpful CDSM book. To register, call 417-256-4055.
