21-year-old Bobbie Derryberry of Eminence was charged on Tuesday. Court documents state that emergency responders and Mountain View Police were called to a home on Herman Street Sunday for an unresponsive child. The baby was later pronounced dead at Mercy St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View.
Investigators and the doctor on staff at the hospital reported multiple bruises on the child’s face, neck and back, fractured skull and broken ribs.
Derryberry reportedly told investigators later that she dropped the baby on the floor because she wouldn’t stop crying, and that she had hit her in the face and on her back.
Officials say Derryberry has not been charged with murder because investigators are waiting on the results of an autopsy.
Derryberry’s other two children, born in 2009 and 2010, were assigned to another guardian.
In 2010, Derryberry was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and in July 2011, was given a suspended sentence and placed on supervised probation for five years.
