(West Plains) – Two women originally from Lawrence, KS who now live in the West Plains area are planning the first bi-annual Children’s Clothing Swap for Saturday, May 11, from 11 AM to 3 PM at the Yellow House, 409 Trish Knight St, in West Plains.
Abby Hess and Maggie Beedles say they have noticed the effort and expense involved in maintaining seasonal, well-fitting clothing for households with even just one child, and have planned a cost-free swap to meet the needs of area families. The idea behind the swap is simple: Participants bring the clothes their children have outgrown, as well as any maternity or nursing clothes and baby carriers, and trade them, for clothing that meets their needs.
Beedles and Hess are bringing the idea from their hometown of Lawrence, KS, where Hess helped to organize a bi-annual swap that grew each time the event was held.
Families are invited to gather up all their no-longer-needed children’s clothing between now and May 11. If you want to pre-register and pre-sort before the event, call 417-501-6063 or email OzarkKidsSwap@gmail.com.
Participants are encouraged to take close to the same number they brought, though Hess reports there is always plenty to go around, so families in need, even if they do not have much to swap, are invited to attend and take what they feel they will use.
All the surplus will be donated to the Christos House thrift store. Additionally, the not-for-profit group will take up a collection to cover the $20 Yellow House rental.
