The purpose of my capitol report today is to celebrate Tax Freedom Day!
When I heard that we work from January 1-April 17 to pay our taxes, I was greatly alarmed. I heard a speaker use an analogy of cattle and taxes. He said that if he fed his cattle too much, they did not put the food to good use; the excess was wasted. He found the same with taxes. When people are over-taxed, the tax money is not put to good use and is wasted.
Since I see my greatest job as your representative is to protect your rights and tax dollars, I will stand firm to ensure these dollars are spent wisely and judiciously and will work to guard against futile tax hikes.
In the words of Daniel Webster, “An unlimited right to tax, implies a right to destroy.”
