(West Plains) – The Missouri Department of Conservation has announced that the White Ranch Shooting Range will be closed four days in October. The range will be closed to the public Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, October 10-12 until 2:00 PM for law enforcement training. The range will also be closed until 1 PM on Thursday, October 25 for the same use.

MDC works closely with law enforcement groups, and current MDC policy is to require groups larger than 10 people to apply for a special use permit in order to use the facility. To apply for a special use permit, certain conditions must be met and application may be made by contacting Julie Norris, the area manager at the West Plains Regional Office (417) 256-7161.

MDC wishes to thank the public in advance for their understanding and patience in regards to the closure. Another MDC public shooting range on the Gist Ranch Conservation Area will be open during these times and it even features a 300 yard range. The range is located just off 17 Highway between Summersville and Houston.
