(Mountain Home) – Two people are in critical condition after falling off of a bluff on Tuesday afternoon.
Baxter County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call around 5:18 PM at Bidwell Point Park on Lake Norfork, just north of the Highway 101 bridge. First responders from the Gamaliel Fire Department along with ambulance personnel from Baxter Regional Medical Center responded to the scene.
Due to the remote location and severe injuries to the two subjects, identified as 44-year-old Vernon Henson and 49-year-old Elaine Royer of Mountain Home, both subjects were transported by the Gamaliel Fire Department Rescue Boat to a nearby location. They were then air-lifted by Air Evac Lifeteam to Mercy Hospital in Springfield.
The initial investigation, including accounts from eye witnesses, indicates the two subjects were going to jump from the bluff into Lake Norfork, fell approximately 35 feet and were found about 12 feet from the water’s edge.
Sheriff John Montgomery says the exact details of incident are not being released at this time, pending further investigation. There was no update on the condition of the victims as of 9 PM Tuesday night.
Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Corp Rangers and the Arkansas State Police.
