(Thayer) – An Alton man faces felony theft charges after he reportedly stole over $250,000 worth of merchandise from an auction company.
A press release from the Thayer Police Department states that they were called May 8 by Winston Tucker, owner of Tucker Auction and Wholesale Company, who told police that he believed an employee, identified as 48-year-old James Chronister of Alton, had been stealing items from the company.
Thayer Police Chief Daryl Childers says that after questioning Chronister, he was placed under arrest and his residence was searched, where over $250,000 worth of merchandise was found. Childers added that Chronister had apparently been stealing from the company during his four years of employment.
Chronister was incarcerated at the Thayer Police Department, and held at report time on $100,000 bond.
