(Mountain Home) – The North Carolina dulcimer player Don Pedi will perform at the Donald W. Reynolds Library, Saturday, April 5, 10:30am. Pedi will present a multigenerational program of music, humorous stories, and the history behind the dulcimer along with fellow dulcimer player and friend David McKinney from Batesville.

Recognized as a music pioneer, Pedi began playing the dulcimer in the late 1960’s and immediately made a name for himself in festival competitions. He eventually won so many music festivals that he was declared a “Master Dulcimer Player” and was banned from future competition.

Pedi has appeared on numerous radio and TV programs including Nashville Network’s “Fire on the Mountain” TV series. He has appeared in the Miramax motion picture “The Journey of August King,” CBS This Morning, and is featured in the documentary: “Why Old Time.” In 1999 he was honored for “preservation and perpetuation of traditional music” at the Memphis Dulcimer Festival. Pedi’s performance is part of the Arkansas Heritage Program Series connecting us to the stories of our past and the rich history of our state. This and other Arkansas Heritage Programs are offered at no charge thanks to our sponsors, the Friends of the Library.
