(West Plains) – On Wednesday, the Howell County Commission approved the annual operating budget for 2014 at just over $8.9 million.

Howell County Presiding Commissioner Mark Collins said that, while the overall budget is up by roughly $500,000 from last year, there are some parts of the budget that remain flat or have fallen, including the amount of grant funding from state and federal resources.

The road and bridge portion of the budget was also up from last year at $2.4 million, partially due to upcoming projects including the construction of a bridge on County Road 8530 just south of West Plains.

The budget is prepared from various offices and departments submitting estimates of revenues and requests for expenditures to the Howell County Commission for review and possible approval.
