(Willow Springs) – EAA Chapter 1218 will be hosting a reception in honor of Bill Ghan, a retired Mansfield Schools Industrial Arts teacher and local area aviator who built a replica of the Wright Flyer, at the Springfield Branson National Airport, Tuesday, December 17, from 4-6 PM. The public is invited to attend.

110 years after the Wright Brothers first powered flight, Ghan honored them with a 10 year celebration of his Replica Wright Flyer. On December 17, 2003, at the Willow Springs Memorial Airport with more than 1,000 people in attendance, Ghan’s Wright Flyer was rolled out of Ron White’s hangar and onto the runway.

Ghan completed most of the replica’s construction in his Mansfield home workshop over a four year period. He eventually involved Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 1218 members in the project.

EAA Chapter 1218 was formed in 1998 with 18 charter members, and has since grown to over one hundred twenty members in a nine county area. For more information visit the chapter website at or call 417-469-4212 or 417-252-0332.
