(Yellville) – A Lead Hill man has been charged with murder after an incident that took place on Sunday, November 17.

30-year-old Joseph Saylors was charged with first degree murder and was held on $100,000 bond. A press release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department states that they received a 911 call from a northern Marion County man who had reported that a truck had stopped in front of his residence for a short time and made a commotion. After going out to investigate, the caller found his brother, 42-year-old Jody Rogers bleeding and unresponsive in a ditch. Jody was pronounced dead at the scene, due to an apparent gunshot wound.

Saylors was developed as a suspect in the case, and officers from Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas State Police and Arkansas Game and Fish went to his address in Lead Hill, where a stand-off took place. Marion County Sheriff Roger Vickers says that Saylors fired several rounds once the house was surrounded.

After several hours, officers from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Harrison Police Department’s SWAT teams took measures to arrest Saylors by introducing a “flash bang” and tear gas into the residence. Saylors then came out on the front porch, where he was stunned by a nonlethal weapon and restrained.

Sheriff Vickers says the incident is still under investigation by the Arkansas State Police and Marion County Sheriff’s Department, with additional charges possibly pending by both Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Marion County.
