I would like to take the time to thank Congressman Jason Smith for a “job well done” in his short tenure in the U.S. House of Representatives. I believe he has represented the 143rd district well as our voice in Washington.
I wish I could say the same thing about the one who replaced him in the Missouri House. But the fact of the matter is that his former seat has been vacant since Mr. Smith’s departure on June 5th. Smith’s 120th district borders the 143rd to the north, and some 36,000 Missourians have lost their public servant for 143 days and counting. I encourage all in our district to contact the Governor urging him to set a date for an election so our neighbors can have their voice restored in Jefferson City. Governor Nixon’s Office Number is 573-751-3222.
Missouri Statute 21.110-“Governor shall issue writs of election, when,–if the governor receives any resignation or notice of vacancy, or if he is satisfied of the death of any member of either house, during the recess, he shall, without delay, issue a writ of election to supply the vacancy.”
