(West Plains) – The West Plains High School’s folklore publication Ridgerunner, Spring 2013 edition has won the prestigious American Scholastic Press Association “First Place with Special Merit” award and “Best Magazine Theme” award.

The publication was written and edited by the 2012-2013 juniors and seniors in Mrs. Dianna Locke’ Folklore Publications class. The spring issue of the publication was printed by Ozark Horse Trader of West Plains.

The ASPA, which serves over 2,000 schools annually, said the publication should be recognized for being “a virtually flawless publication.”. The magazine was lauded for having outstanding theme, student written articles, original artwork and photography, and a superior design and layout. Ridgerunner received 975 points out of a possible 1,000 points on the ASPA scoring guide.

The ASPA is a nationally recognized and accredited publication contest. It is based in College Point, New York and features newspapers, magazines, and annuals from each of the fifty states.

The magazine, founded by Jim Decker, began in 1984.

The fall edition of West Plains High School’s Ridgerunner magazine is will be on sale between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday and may be found at ABC/Carpet One Servicemaster, Book Nook, and Time and Talent. The price is $5 per issue and a yearly subscription of two issues may be purchased for $12, which includes shipping.
