(Houston) – The city of Houston has been named as a finalist in a contest judging the most progressive communities in Missouri.

The category is based on population size, with Houston competing with Albany, Fayette and Windsor, MO. Winners will be announced later this month at the 50th Community Betterment Conference October 20-21 at the Country Club Hotel at Lake Ozark.

The Houston Herald reports that judges visited Houston in September and reviewed projects underway or completed in Houston during the past year, including the expansion of Texas County Memorial Hospital, tree planting in Emmett Kelly Park, and work from various other organizations in the community.

The Missouri Community Betterment (MCB) Program, established in 1963, seeks to help Missouri communities enhance their life through overall community development, planning and implementation, and awarding those that excel.
