(West Plains) – When stop signs became stop lights, skating rinks became lots, and restaurants became car dealerships, it’s safe to say the residents of West Plains have seen changes all over their city in recent years.
But now another well known West Plains business is closing their doors.
After being open since the 1960’s, Suds N, formally Dog N Suds, will be shut down after Tuesday, October 15.
Ozark Radio News spoke with owner Scott Stephens, who shared that the closing is because there wasn’t enough money coming in and that they had been borrowing money just to keep the doors open.
In December of 2011, KYTV in Springfield broadcasted a story on Suds N, when the business was on the edge of shutting down for the first time. Stephens said that the broadcast brought in some business, but things went back to normal after a few months.
On the Suds N Facebook page, a post written by the admin gave social media users the notice on September 14 that Suds N is indeed closing down. Since its posting, the notice has received over 30 comments from current and former customers, employees, and residents. Each comment reflects a story, a fond farewell, or a question of “Why?”.
Stephens shared that they owned the business, but not the building and that he has no idea what will become of the old structure.
Suds N is located at 301 West Broadway in Downtown West Plains. Up until their closing their Monday through Friday hours will be 10:30AM-8PM, and 11AM-7PM on Saturdays.
