(Washington) – President and CEO David Zechman of Ozarks Medical Center of West Plains has been recognized as a Grassroots Champion by the American Hospital Association. Nominated by the Missouri Hospital Association, Zechman was selected for the award because of his leadership in generating grassroots and community activity in support of hospitals.

Zechman received the award Tuesday at the AHA Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.

The American Hospital Association Grassroots Champions Award was created to honor hospital leaders who effectively educate elected officials about hospitals’ vital roles in their communities. Recipients are recognized for their exemplary performance in broadening the base of community support for hospitals and providing tireless advocacy for hospitals and patients.

Zechman received his bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and his master’s degree from Cleveland State University. He has served as president and CEO of Ozarks Medical Center since June 2008 and has served in the health care sector for more than 25 years. He is originally from Cleveland, where he began his health care career as a respiratory therapist in 1982. Zechman is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He and his wife of 35 years, Rhonda, have two adult daughters, Audra and Alyssa.
