(Little Rock) (AP) – An attorney suing over the state’s new lethal injection law says it has many of the same problems that resulted in the old law being rejected by the courts.

Attorney Jeff Rosenzweig says the lethal injection procedures approved in the just-concluded legislative session still contains elements that violate the separation of powers. Rosenzweig filed the suit Friday and says the drugs may cause a slow, agonizing death or not kill the inmate at all.

He also says the law violates federal law on dealing with the drugs that would be used and doesn’t properly provide for training and selection of the executioners.

Rosenzweig says there are complicated evidentiary issues to sort out and that it may take the courts a while to resolve the action.
