(Jefferson City) – The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reporting that eight people were killed in traffic crashes during this year’s Thanksgiving holiday counting period; from 6 PM Wednesday, November 27, through 11:59 PM Sunday, December 1.
During the holiday troopers investigated 299 traffic crashes, which included 140 injuries. In addition, troopers arrested 139 people for driving while intoxicated. The Highway Patrol investigated seven of the fatalities. The St. Louis Police Department investigated the remaining fatality.
During the 2012 Thanksgiving holiday, troopers investigated 350 traffic crashes, which included 140 injuries. There were six fatalities over the 2012 Thanksgiving weekend. Troopers arrested 140 people for driving while intoxicated that same weekend in 2012.
According to the report from the Highway Patrol five of the fatalities occurred in the Troop F, Jefferson City area. One fatality occurred in each of the following areas: Troop C, Weldon Spring, MO, Troop G, Willow Springs, MO, and Troop I, Rolla, MO.
There were no boating incidents, boating while intoxicated arrests, or drowning’s reported during the 2013 Thanksgiving holiday counting period.
